N.A.C.E. Capital Style Awards: The Food

The dessert buffet also included mini pumpkin pies, served in shelled-out pumpkins.

Beyond the extravagant decor that brought the fairy tale-themed N.A.C.E. Capital Style Awards to life on Sunday night, the food further immersed guests in the experience. The Liaison Capitol Hill‘s in-house restaurant Art and Soul created a special menu beginning with a first course of house made venison sausage and poached pear salad with saba dressing. Guests choose a carnivorous or vegetarian plate for their main course. The former included osso bucco with port wine reduction, roasted root vegetables and whipped Peruvian potatoes, while the latter had a lentil stew with lemon and basil served in a phyllo cup with roasted heirloom tomatoes.

When it came to desserts, the organizers for the  last Sunday kept the fairy tale theme going. Local caterers Savory Gourmet, RSVP Catering, and Superb Cuisines provided a selection of cakes, pies, lollipops, and other sweets for guests to enjoy post-dinner.

N.A.C.E. Creates Fairy Tale World for Annual Capital Style Awards

White drape along the perimeter walls of the dinner ballroom accented with golden uplighting created a sunset-style atmosphere for the Enchanted Forest-themed room.

The Washington chapter of the National Association of Catering Executives (N.A.C.E.) turned to the fairy tales of childhood when it came to designing this year’s annual Capital Style Awards on Sunday night. Inspired by ABC’s drama Once Upon a Time, co-chairs Kelly Ann Downes and Aisha Malik brought together 40 local vendors to transform the Liaison Capitol Hill Hotel into an enchanted wonderland.

The night began in the Emerald City reception in one of the hotel’s smaller ballrooms complete with green draping along all the walls, green uplighting, and even an appearance by Dorothy, the Tin Man, Lion, and Scarecrow. Snow White took over the seating assignments in the hallway with a table of poison apples adorned with a leaf-shaped tag with each guest’s name and table assignment.

Across the hall, the main event space had been completely transformed into an enchanted forest. Capital Party Rentals‘ provided wooden tables topped with elegant earth-tone linens from Select Event Rentals.  Edge Floral Event Designers rounded out the forest look with grass, tree, and floral centerpieces accented with floating white candles in vases of varying heights. Drape Kings covered the walls with elegant light fabric, upon which golden uplighting created an sunset-style atmosphere.

Photo Spotlight: Catering at the 2011 Artini

Yesterday I reported about the Corcoran Gallery of Art’s 2011 Artini on Saturday. Main Event Caterers provided an extensive buffet of finger foods and quick bites at two buffet tables on either end of the event space. Here’s a closer look at some of the delicious bites and a few accompanying cocktails.

Photo Tour from Boston to the Circus

In recent week’s I’ve had the opportunity to work on my photography skills at some great events. Beginning with a bridal shower in Boston, I later headed to the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington for the American Association of People with Disabilities’ (A.A.P.D.) annual gala , and most recently ventured to the circus in honor of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s new Barnum 200 show.

Here are some highlights:
