Lincoln drove one of its cars into the first-floor space of Fathom Creative and opened the floor-to-ceiling glass doors to draw attention to the spot.

Lincoln Motor Company brought 10 of its 2013 luxury vehicles to Washington on Thursday for the second stop of its 11-city “Hello Again” marketing tour. Focused around the new MKZ, the tour creates a series of unique experiences for drivers to see their home city from the driver’s seat of a Lincoln and is part of the company’s recent rebranding efforts. The Washington stint follows a two-week stay in Miami.

In each city, guests sign up for a tour time online, then check in at the venue, dubbed the “Hello Again Hub,” and choose a car from the fleet lined up on the street. Guests had the option of driving—or being driven in—a vehicle for the experience, led by a brand rep in the front car who provided turning directions via walkie-talkies in each car.

“The tour is an extension of our ‘Hello Again’ platform that we kicked off in February to reintroduce people to the Lincoln Motor Company with a fresh, new look,” said Alex Acey, Lincoln’s brand content and alliances manager, who coordinated the tour. “People need to see a physical representation of [the rebranding] and the MKZ is representative of that from a design perspective as well as the performance.”

Lincoln has partnered with local artists, influencers, and up-and-coming organizations in each city to serve as local stops on the driving tour. While in Miami, guests had coffee with Panther Coffee and watched a cigar-rolling demonstration at the Wynwood Cigar Factory. In Washington, stops include a popsicle-making demo at Pleasant Pops, a food-truck-turned-café operation in Adams Morgan, followed by a drive through of an art gallery of paintings from RAW Natural Born Artists set up in an alley on the way back to the Hello Again Hub, where other brand partners like a local architecture firm and jewelry designer talked to guests.
“We want to give folks an idea about what is going on underground and what is up and coming,” Acey said.

The company chose SoHo Studios in Miami and marketing and branding firm Fathom Creative’s offices on 14th Street in Washington for its local hubs, which serve as the rally point before and after the driving tours. “The goal for hub is to find a place that is off the beaten path but provides a unique experience,” Acey said. “This location provides a blend of rich, historical architecture with right modern touches and a way to walk through easily to introduce people to the [tour] partners and invite them to linger in the hub.”

The experience will remain in each city for two to three weeks to provide the driving experience for about 1,500 people on each stop. The tour will hit Boston later this month before moving onto New York, Chicago, Denver, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Houston, finally wrapping up in November in Atlanta.

A Cocktail in Dessert Form

SP_dom_margarita_13-0409

For the folks at Sprinkles Cupcakes, one day is simply not enough for all the goodness that is Cinco de Mayo. In an effort to continue the Mexican celebration, the team created a specialty margarita cupcake. The key lime tequila cake is topped with key lime frosting and dusted with salt around the rim, just like its liquid namesake.

Priced at $3.50 each, the cupcakes are currently available until May 23 at the Georgetown store as well as the 11 other locations around the country.

Get Inspired: How to Use Bright Colors Without Overpowering Your Event

With Andy Warhol art on the walls of the atrium, Eric Michael and Jack Lucky used a 1970s-inspired color palette of bright orange, yellow, pink, and neon green. Perfect Settings provided linens in each of these colors to create alternating color blocks from table to table.

Vibrant colors reverberated throughout the Corcoran Gallery of Art for the 58th annual Corcoran Ball, with each gallery boasting bright spring hues like yellow, coral, pink, blue, and green. The team behind the ball’s look took inspiration from the color palette and art in the galleries to create individual looks for each room.

The museum’s Women’s Committee turned to Jack Lucky of Jack H. Lucky Floral Design, Occasions Caterers’ Eric Michael, and Barbara Grazzini of Perfect Settings L.L.C once again to transform the museum for the ball. The 721 guests dined on a three-course meal at elaborately decorated tables set up throughout the museum’s eight galleries, atrium, and rotunda—the only time food and drink are allowed in these spaces.

Check out how the team created an effective design without overpowering the environment.

How TEDMed Created a Food Tour for All Five Senses

TEDMed, the medical technology and healthcare event started by the same entrepreneur that founded the renowned TED conference, took a different approach to food service for its annual conference dinner at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Wednesday night. TEDMed event planner Nicole Finn of C to C Events working with U.K.-based Gastrophonic and Occasions Caterers, it created a culinary experience that tied all the senses together.

Each of the four food flights had its own theme that combined various small bites—both passed and on buffets—with a signature drink, musical score, and lighting scheme designed by Gastrophonic to create a cohesive environment that encompassed sight, sound, taste, smell, and texture.

“Studies have been done in the U.K. showing that sound and light enhance how you taste food,” said Occasions marketing manager Denise Nguyen. “A restaurant in London has done this before by providing an iPod with its food service, but this is the first time we’ve brought this concept to a large event.”

Jason Wu, Louis Vuitton Inspire Decor at Fashion for Paws

Syzygy Events International returned as the visionaries behind the staging and decor for the Washington Humane Society’s Fashion for Paws fund-raiser on Saturday night. The team aimed for a completely different look at the National Building Museum than last year’s flower-filled fete, opting for a more modern look with emerald accents—in honor of the color’s designation as color of the year.
Designers Marielle Shortell and Julie Shanklin took inspiration from fashion designers Jason Wu’s and Louis Vuitton’s 2013 spring collections with sleek, black and white decor with checkered details. Combining their efforts with Atmosphere Lighting, rentals from DC Rental and  Design Cuisine—who also catered the dinner—and minimalistic-style floral centerpieces from Edge Floral Event Designers, the 1,700-person event transformed the museum and raised about $700,000.

9 Refreshing Cocktail Ideas for Spring Events

The Corcoran Gallery of Art‘s annual spring fund-raiser Artini is all about creative cocktails. Hosted by the museum’s young professionals’ 1869 Society, the affair pits local Washington mixologists against one another to see who can craft the most artistic tipple inspired by a work of art in the gallery. This year, the experts looked beyond the traditional addition of fruit juice in their spring cocktails, opting for original ingredients like chocolate bitters, dehydrated fruit garnishes, and even absinthe.
Here’s a look at nine inventive cocktail ideas to steal for spring events.
Mixologists featured from The Passenger, Jack Rose, Zentan, The Gibson, Bandolero, Daikaya, P.O.V., and Ambar.

See How One Graphic Inspired a Major Fund-Raising Gala’s Entire Look

At one of the largest fund-raisers in the city, nearly 2,000 people attended the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s 26th annual ball Saturday at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. After booking the night’s headliners, Jim Belushi and the Sacred Hearts Band and comedian Dana Carvey, organizers turned to the Internet for decor inspiration.

“Jim has a sort of bluesy feel to him, so we were trying to come [up] with a theme to complement that and decided on Saturday Night Blues,” said event producer Julie Hanson of Hanson Productions. “We then Googled images of jazz saxophone silhouettes, found one with this orange swoosh around him and loved it, so built everything around that.”

The image’s influence was evident throughout the reception and dinner spaces in everything from the linens and centerpieces to the lighting, additional entertainment, and printed collateral.

Here are the event decor, staging, catering, and entertainment highlights from the benefit.
